I’m a curious person who enjoys learning how things work. Over the years, when people would post in social media groups or on discussion boards about how the lights came on during a dark ride at Disney World, I would think about how cool that would be to see for myself. But for someone who has never been on the ride and may never possibly ride it again (as in, they don’t end up going back to Walt Disney World after that trip), I can see where this might destroy the magic for them.
I’ve seen other people’s videos or pictures of when the lights came on during rides like Haunted Mansion, Dinosaur, Peter Pan’s Flight, and most frequently, Space Mountain. As a matter of fact, as I was trying to type this post up, I kept stopping to re-watch a Space Mountain with the lights on ride through video. I find it so interesting to watch, but it totally is more fun with the lights off the way it was meant to be ridden. It certainly kills the magic and takes people out of the moment, but I’m here for seeing any dark parts of Disney rides with the lights on.
I don’t think I’ve ever been on something where the lights were turned on, except during part of a ride on the People Mover that happened to be perfectly timed to when I passed the windows that let you see part of Space Mountain. I geeked out for sure! My friend and I were excited to have seen that for a few seconds.
I definitely wouldn’t mind seeing behind the scenes a little and having the lights come on during other dark rides. There should be a tour offered where you can see this on purpose! Is that a thing? Someone please tell me if that’s a thing! °O°
