The Race is On!

il_170x135.480557004_54ecWell, I did it! I registered for my first RunDisney event today! In May I’ll be participating in the Expedition Everest Challenge at Animal Kingdom park. My awesome Facebook Disney friend Shari will be meeting me there to be my teammate! We’re both super excited! It’s a 5k race that includes an obstacle course, a scavenger hunt and a post-race party. This RunDisney 5k costs more than the 5ks during other race weekends, but it’s worth it to me on so many levels!

Aside from being on my way to crossing off another Disney Bucket List item, I’m amazed that I’ve been running and actually enjoying it! The only time I ever ran was in high school and that was because we had to run track and cross country in order to play on the basketball team. I used to hate running! But now I’m kind of obsessed with getting better and being able to run longer. Combining my new obsession of running with my long time obsession with Disney World is probably driving my family and friends insane, but I’m loving it! And to top it off, I’m getting fit and healthy too!

I’ve got to work on strengthening my (stupid) knees because since I began running in August, I’ve hurt each knee a couple times each…and only one of those times was actually due to running. The other times I stepped wrong just walking in the yard, moved my knee weird while sitting down, and I hurt both knees at once slipping on ice while going to check my mailbox. I’m just cool like that…

Oh wait…an added bonus to participating in a RunDisney event…I can count this as a solo trip (another Disney Bucket List item) and I get to plan my mini getaway! Who doesn’t love planning a Disney trip?!! Keep an eye out for my pre-race report and race report from Walt Disney World! I CAN.NOT.WAIT!! 🙂

See Ya Real Soon!

  1. Sounds like it will be a fun weekend, good luck!

(every time my knees hurt, the first thing I check is the mileage on my shoes. Needing new shoes is almost always the problem for me).

    • Thanks! I have bad knees anyway from playing basketball in high school. Ironically, I had to have surgery on one knee after an injury from running cross country back then…but I’ll be trying out different shoes for sure! 🙂
